Laurel, N.J.) and Ali Andrzejewski (Lutherville, Md.) each tallied a goal and an assist in the five-goal performance, which marked the most goals and largest margin of victory over a ranked team since a 6-1 thrashing of No. 17 James Madison on Nov. 18, 1995, and most in ACC match since 1998."I'm very proud of this overall team effort," said head coach Shannon Higgins-Cirovski. This puts us in a very positive position when looking forward to the postseason tournaments."The Terps (9-6-1, 2-4 ACC) quickly raced out of the gates when Jen Biscoe (Baltimore, Md.) headed home an Andrzejewski centering pass 19 seconds into the match, sending the Ludwig Field crowd of 1,205 into a frenzy.It was the ninth time in the last 12 games that Maryland has scored first, with seven goals coming within the first 6:20 of action.Maryland didn't allow the home faithful to get restless as Andrzejewski nailed a turnaround shot past Wake keeper Kenna Healy, giving the Terps a two-goal cushion just 3:02 into the game.But Kimmy Francis (Richboro, Pa.) wasn't satisfied, pickpocketing a Wake defender at the edge of the box and lofting a 20-yard shot over Healy for Maryland's third goal at 7:15.Ludwig picked up her goal midway through the second half, blasting in a rebound of a Mallory Mahar (Medina, Ohio) shot, to give the Terps a commanding 4-0 lead.Wake (9-5-3, 0-4-2) responded five minutes later with their only goal of the game, when Taylor Toombs' free kick deflected off the Maryland wall and past keeper Kristen Barnhill (Charlottesville, Va.), who corralled six saves on the night.Maryland picked up the game's final goal with 11:34 left in regulation when a Deacon defender's back pass trickled past Healy and into the Wake net for the 5-1 lead.The five goals are the most in ACC contest since the Terps blanked NC State 5-0 on Sept. 20, 1998 - also the largest margin of victory in an ACC match.The Terrapin win ends a four-game losing streak in the series, dating to 1999 and evens the overall series at six. It also marks the third time this season and the 36th all-time that Maryland has defeated a ranked opponent.The Terps will close out the ACC portion of their schedule on Friday when they travel to Durham, N.C. to take on the No. 11 Duke University at 7 p.m. Maryland returns home to conclude its regular season home schedule next Sunday against local foe Navy on Senior Night.
